Christmas Card Fun... Day#1

Hello Peeps!  As my Christmas Gift to you over the next few weeks I am going to share just a few of the Christmas cards I made this year for all those most special people in my life.  Not my usual 100 or more original designs as I am in the middle of  moving our entire household and life to British Columbia... a new province, a new start and the beginning of a life Dean and I have been dreaming about since we met almost 20 years ago... SWOON!

Here is the first one - a wee Christmas Giggle using several Unity Stamps and a christmas sentiment from the Dyan Reaveley collection... ENJOY!

Now for those that want to know I stamped the background using a stamp I created with moldable foam that I heated and pressed into the back of my platform for my die cutting machine... Totally Cool HUH! then I stamped, colored and fussy cut my Unity stamp images and popped them overtop.  I used my Tsuniko Gel Pens to color in those  hanging balls and my watercolors to paint my lovely girl.  The sentiment makes it don't you think??

"V" is for Vintage!

Yup, it's time for another Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers challenge and this week it is:

 "V" is for Vintage

Now Vintage is not my usual style but I challenged myself to stay true to the art form and would it suprise you to know that I found lots of vintage-y stuff in my stash? Stuff that I have just never used? (grin) so this was a great NBUS exercise as well (Never Before Used SCHTUFF!). Thanks Darnell of DJKardKreations for sharing this with the rest of us!

I used a lot of product on this card from many different vendors including: Stamping-Up's kraft resist cardstock stained with Windsor & Newton's scarlet india ink; Close To My Heart's peel and stick kraft borders; Prima Flowers' jeweled and paper bird; My Minds Eye's princess pearl swirls; and finally Dylusions Dyan Reaveley's "The Right Words" stamp set for that perfect quote!

A Girl And An Empty Coffeemate Tin

Today I have created a pictorial "How-To" showing you what happens when you leave me alone with my imagination and an empty CoffeeMate tin ... Grin

Yes, I admit it - I LOVE CoffeeMate and I buy it in the biggest tin it comes in and refill my four plastic CoffeeMate containers over and over.  But have you ever seen the Tin?!  They are so BIG and so solidly made that I just cannot throw them away, I just KNOW there must be something I can do to "re-purpose" them ... And then it came to me - My NEW Halloween Candy bucket and future Treasure Holder: TAAA DAAA!

And Here's How It's Done:

1. Start with an empty tin

2. Paste on paint chips (taken from the hardware store to re-purpose) which have been run through an embossing folder to create some texture, and add more texture using modeling paste and some stencils - let dry

3. Cover completely with white Gesso - let dry and then paint background with Silks enamel paint which allow you to layer the color without mixing- let dry

4. Spray 140lbs water color paper with a variety of Dylusion sprays, stamp Multiple Dyan Reaveley images and cut out

5. Paste cut out images to tin using matte ModPodge or multi medium,layering as you go

6. Add details with black and white gel pens

7. finish off with Stickles, Liquid Pearl and Liquid Glass

8. Fill with Candy and share with your friends!

The Sisterhood of Snarky Stamper's First Annual Spectacular September Snark Off BLOG HOP!

Hello Everyone.... I am over-the-moon excited to be participating in this first ever Blog Hop with my Snarky Sisters and to be introducing Rubber Dance Art Stamps, a home-based stamping company out of Norway run by the awesome Bibi Lindahl!

We have found our people!
There is a one-woman company, Rubber Dance Art Stamps, in far off Norway that speaks our language. I don't mean English. I mean SNARK! She makes a whole rubber plate of snark! This divine product of snarkitude must be shared, and we have accepted that challenge.

And Finally - Here is the card I created using the sentiment "667 - Evil and then some"

I used two sets of my Dyan Reaveley stamps, "Background Love" for the flowers and "Bits of This" for the face, and all of my Ranger Dylusion sprays to create this little bit of fun and loveliness.

I painted in the face using my Derwent Inktense Blocks, because the color will not run when it has dried.

Creating the flowers was easy, I sprayed a sheet of watercolor paper with my dylusion sprays, stamped the flowers using Ranger's Archival ink, and then cut them out and layered them all around the card and face image, using foam pop dots to create some dimension.

And of course, no card of mine would be complete without that layer of Ranger's Stickles and CTMH Liquid Glass, and some Want2Scrap jewels and pearls finished it off.

It's Dylusions (Dyan Reaveley) Day...

I've decided to add a monthly Dylusion post to my blog where I use Dylusion products - mostly from my horde of Dyan Reaveley stamps - which I will post in the Dylusion's Facebook Challenge Site  - (It's a private site so you have to request to to join).  

Because just in case you haven't noticed...

I . LOVE . DYAN . REAVELEY

When I first discovered Dyan's stamps I felt the way Dorothy must have felt when she first saw the Emerald City of OZ - "I'm HERE!"  I really do believe that my brain thinks just like HER brain and I love her sarcastic sense of humour and whimsical, avant-garde style... So like ME! (Grin), 

Besides, I have lots and LOTS of Dyan Reaveley and Dylusion stuff so it's about time I started to use it.  So here is the first of what I hope will be many more creations using my Dyan Reaveley and Dylusion products...

To create this card I used three of Dyan's stamp sets: "How Does Your Garden Grow; Ruby Rainbow; and Around the Edge. I sprayed 140lbs watercolor paper with my Ranger Dylusion sprays and stamped it with the different elements I wanted; I then cut everything out and mixed and matched them on the remainder of my sprayed watercolor paper.  I used foam pops dots under the umbrella and boots and of course some Ranger's Stickles and CTMH Liquid Glass give it that little bit of sparkle I need, and a black pen provided the final finishing touch that I think make my cards POP!

All this to create a bit of happy in this uplifting card being sent out to a friend of mine in need of a hug today...

It's a NBUS Challenge! (Never-Before-Used-Schtuff!)

"Hello Everyone... I'm Back AGAIN - Grin - and today I am sharing these four totally cute cards I created using three stamp sets that I have had for years, but have NEVER used... (I KNOW right?)  and this is all thanks to an AMAZING blogger I stumbled across this year and just have to share with you,

Ms. Darnell J. Knauss of DJ Kard Kreations!

I love so many things about this awesome woman and her blog... things like:

- She came  up with the acronym:  NBUS (never-been-used-schtuff) and holds challenges devoted to it;

- That she signs off with "Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy.  LITS!*" *LITS (Life is too short);

 - That she named her craft place "The Playhouse" and it's totally cute;

 - That she has a "Friends Corner" where she introduces the blogs of new members of her Blog... Like she did for me HERE! in this March Blog Post ... (scroll down to her "Friends Corner" - grin)

- and Finally the thing I LOVE THE MOST about her is that when she finds a card she loves and "scraplifts" the idea, that she then BLOGS about it - shows the original - shows her version - and gives the owner CREDIT... seriously, seriously COOL! 

One day I want to travel to Texas Ooops, I mean Northern  California and meet this woman... happy sigh.    Darnell this one's for YOU...

So here are my cards created because Ms. Darnell is having another NUBS Challenge and I want to participate... 

All these cards were created from scraps of leftover paper, some already sprayed with dylusions inks, (see the coral?) I just stamped right on top of pre-sprayed paper and cut them out.. cool huh? 

Plus I used two Dylusion stamps sets by Dyan Reaveley that I HAD to have; that I spent CRAZY money on and that have never been inked by me! grin

And I used these awesome typewriter sayings that I bought in a dollar store in 2009 and have NEVER USED! So THANK YOU Ms. Darnell... you are making me use my NBUS! Grin...

Another Different Kind of Valentine!

Today I want to share another of my new stamps from the Unity Stamp Company (yes I have A LOT of them!) She's an Itty Bitty Fashionista - MARLOW - and when I saw her I just knew she would be perfect for a line of sarcastic Valentines day cards I was just itching to make using my Dyan Reaveley "The Right Words" and "Say It How It Is" Quote stamps... So without Further Ado... here she is:

for those of you that want to know, I stamped her with Archival ink onto 120lbs watercolor paper and used my gelato's like paint (color them on a craft sheet and add water to make paint)... pretty cool huh? and as always, I fussy cut her, popped her off the page and added stickles and liquid glass to make her sparkle!

And of course I just HAVE to share her "awesome-ness" so I am linking her up to Unity's Friends with Flair, a Friday share of our Unity creativity... you should pop on by to check out the rest of us Unity addicts! (grin)

It's a Drunken Stampers Challenge (#149) and Day 10 on my Journey of Creativity!

Welcome to the Drunken Stampers Challenge #149 - This week the Challenge is A THING:  Chipboard or Grunge board - create something using a chipboard or grunge board element and then go to the Drunken Stampers Lounge and link up your project using our linky tool.  You too can win the coveted "I was the LIFE of the PARTY" Blinky for your blog!

Here is my creation... NOT a card this week, but a card-sized Canvas (4x6 inches) for that special person who deserves something just a little bit MORE than just a card...

On this project I used my Tim Holtz Sizzix die and cut out my shape from some grunge board.  I am ashamed to say that more than three years ago I HAD to buy this die but that it has never been out of the package since?! My mission this year (2013) is to actually USE what have as I am a wee bit horrified at the sheer amount of STUFF I have accumulated over the past 10 years... so YEAH ME!... I am using my stuff ... Grin.

Now I also used my Dylusions sprays (Ranger), my Dyan Reaveley stamps (also from Ranger) and some background stamps from my Unity stamp collection to create these lovely layers of yumminess... I used watercolor paints to on the little girl image - who I absolutely ADORE because she reminds me of ME when I was about 12...

30 days of Creativity - #3

It's a Quickie today... an Artist's trading card (ATC) 3.5 x 2.5 inches so just the perfect size to do something quick with my new Dyan Reaveley stamps, dylusion sprays, colorbox inks, my gel pens and some Zentangle pattern practice....

Starting 30 Days of Creativity - #1

Last month an amazingly talented friend of mine (Ms. Christy Riopel) started an adventure called "30 days of Art Pieces" - She made a commitment to create one piece of art every single day for 30 days.  She was challenged to do this by another amazing Canadian woman/artist/extraordinary soul - Ms. Karen Ellis, who read about the original idea by an American artist Ms. Nancy Wier HERE .  The concept is to just make something every day for 30 days.  It doesn't have to be finished - it doesn't have to be pretty - you don't even have to like it... it's about the process; it's about tapping into that creative energy inside you and allowing it free reign because you don't have TIME to think about the project, analyze the project, or even change what you start.  Just the sheer volume of a project-a-day will make you to go places and do things that you  had no idea were inside you - you may even surprise yourself with what you produce.

So I am jumping on board and going to create something every single day for the next 30 days ... and I am going to share it with all of you... (maybe - grin)... remember it doesn't have to be pretty or even finished... But This is Number 1 and it is finished and I LOVE it - especially for Halloween... I am not going to go into a lot of detail about the process for these pieces - I am just going to share them and maybe give you some close ups so you can see the detail.

Using Dyan Reaveley and Frog's Whiskers stamps; dylusions sprays and Lots of Doodling in black and white I just kept layering and layering and in a suprisingly short time I was done!

But I am totally immersing myself into the process - my hands are  permanently stained and my studio is in a constant state of chaos ... and I am HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY!

So Lynne, Tell Us How You REALLY Feel!

Well our Drunken Stampers design team is still hanging in there and giving it our BEST for this third round of the Smeared and Smudged Design Team Throwdown 2013... This weeks challenge: Mini Albums - no larger than 4 inches containing at least 5 pages.  

You can see all the DT entries over at the Smeared and Smudged forum and I would LOVE if you would go check them out and vote for us!  You’ll need to be a member of the forum to vote but it’s fast and easy. Voting is open until Friday, April 12th at midnight!  

This is what I came up with It's a MatchBook Album and I absolutely LOVE it!  It is sooo ME... Grin.  I used only my Dyan Reaveley Dylusions stamps, stamped with Archival Ink onto water color paper and painted with my watercolors. I used lots of ModPodge as both an adhesive and sealer and a black waterproof marker to doodle around my pages.  I had a lot of fun with the cover using gesso and a plastic fork to create some texture, and acrylic paint in two colors and some bubble wrap to create some interest.   

I think I am going to keep it in the bathroom for guests to read (Bigger Grin).... So without Further ado.. here it IS:
