A Birthday Wish for YOU... with Angie Blom/UNITY Stamps

Good Morning Everyone!  It's a SPECIAL Drunken Stampers Challenge this week.... ANYTHING GOOOOOES! Also, today is bit of a sad, sad day for me as I type my Last Post for the Drunken Stampers  - for a little while anyway...

I just want to say that my two terms on this design team have been so wonderful and FUN (not always the case on a design team!) And that if you were ever interested in being on a design team this is a GOOD ONE! They are so organized but also easy-going and approachable, putting NO  limitations on your creativity AND they love sarcasm and laughter (and Drinking-grin) - you gotta love that!  We girls actually banter back and forth on our DT page and I have gotten to know these ladies on a personal level.  I am sorry to be leaving right now but LIFE HAPPENED and I do hope to be back again soon.  Besides now I will get to PLAY in the lounge... Grin! I NEEEED the "life of the party" blinky for this blog...

So for my last Drunken Stamper Post I am sharing my latest love in the stamping world.. ANGIEGirls from Unity Stamps, these stamps are designed by the very talented Angie Blom and if you  haven't seen them yet you are MISSING OUT.  There seems to be an ANGIEGirl for every occasion, but today I am using the birthday girl:

I colored her using my Copic markers and did my usual "Fussy Cutting Thing"...

... and of course I popped her off the card using foam pop dots...

Drunken Stampers Challenge #155 - Embossing!

Hello Everyone... Yes, it's that time again... Drunken Stamper's Challenge #155 - THING - Embossing (dry or heat embossing). I chose dry embossing because I have an entire collection of embossing folders that I just never seem to use... AND even though it's December 21st I am kind of tired of making Christmas cards so I thought I would make an uplifting, happy card for someone in my life who is facing some pretty big challenges right now. And I thought if I'm making one card I might as well make three cards....Grin... so here they are ONE embossing folder and Three cards all featuring my very favorite Unity Stamps by Phyllis Harris:

I used the sunburst from my stash of Tim Holtz embossing folders and some generic orange card stock and then I gently rubbed the embossed image with several complimentary shades of yellow ocre, rust and beige pigment inks to really bring out the embossing.

I stamped all my images on 140lbs watercolor paper using waterproof Archival ink and then painted them using a really light hand.... I just love the effect don't you? 

I cut out my painted images and layered them over the embossed cardstock using foam pop dots to give them dimension.  I matted two of the embossed cards and added the leaves and flowers cut from a piece of unknown pattered paper in my stash.

And of course I added stickles to accent the flowers and sunburst and liquid glass to finish it off and even some doodling on a few of the sunburts. 

I love these images by Phyllis Harris... they make my heart feel lighter just looking at them... I used to be that girl with the pigtails on the swing with my head thrown so far back I felt like I was upside down.... happy sigh...

Drunken Stampers Challenge #151 - it's a DINER (or food)

Welcome to another of the Drunken Stampers Challenges ... this week the Challenge is a PLACE and that place is a Diner (or Food). Create a card with a diner or waitress or food theme and blog about it and them link up your blog post to the Drunken Stampers Lounge using our linky tool and you TOO could win the coveted "I Was the Life of the Party" blinky for your blog!  Here is what I came up with for this week's challenge:

I finally got to use this awesome Art Impressions stamp I bought last year ... I just HAD to have it  because it reminds me of ME and my friends when we meet for coffee at the local diner on a weekday afternoon... because that's what you do when you are RETIRED!

And we always seem to talk about the same things... What we can eat; What we CAN'T eat anymore; How much exercise we are NOT getting; and then we share recipes, deserts, new food products we have discovered that are sugar-free, gluten-free, fat-free; and VERY occasionally we discuss our men ... Grin.

So when I came across this saying I knew it would be the perfect addition to this card with a Diner/Food theme....

I took this super CLOSE UP so you can see how I popped the two outside women but left the centre one flat because it's exactly like the way we talk!

It's a Drunken Stampers Challenge (#149) and Day 10 on my Journey of Creativity!

Welcome to the Drunken Stampers Challenge #149 - This week the Challenge is A THING:  Chipboard or Grunge board - create something using a chipboard or grunge board element and then go to the Drunken Stampers Lounge and link up your project using our linky tool.  You too can win the coveted "I was the LIFE of the PARTY" Blinky for your blog!

Here is my creation... NOT a card this week, but a card-sized Canvas (4x6 inches) for that special person who deserves something just a little bit MORE than just a card...

On this project I used my Tim Holtz Sizzix die and cut out my shape from some grunge board.  I am ashamed to say that more than three years ago I HAD to buy this die but that it has never been out of the package since?! My mission this year (2013) is to actually USE what have as I am a wee bit horrified at the sheer amount of STUFF I have accumulated over the past 10 years... so YEAH ME!... I am using my stuff ... Grin.

Now I also used my Dylusions sprays (Ranger), my Dyan Reaveley stamps (also from Ranger) and some background stamps from my Unity stamp collection to create these lovely layers of yumminess... I used watercolor paints to on the little girl image - who I absolutely ADORE because she reminds me of ME when I was about 12...

Drunken Stampers Challenge #147 - HALLOWEEN (of course)

It's Drunken Stampers Challenge #147 - a Person - A Goth (OR Halloween!)  Yup, it's that time again and how fun it is to have the freedom Halloween gives us to create or re-create ourselves in anyway we like... This week for the challenge I took the Halloween route because I really, REALLY wanted to use this pumpkin die that I have had for a while .... a cute yet creepy pumpkin image.... and I made two cards - one for each grandson in Ft. Mac.  Adding the Googly eyes took the images to a whole new level....

and then adding the moustache/hair to another level again.... how AWESOME is he??

Who Doesn't Love a CARNIVAL?

Wow!! It's that time again, already - another Drunken Stampers challenge and this week Challenge #145 is a Place  - a CARNIVAL!  Just create a card using anything you would find at a carnival, post it on your blog and link it up in our Drunken Stampers Lounge using our Linky Tool.. You have until Friday!  

This week my choice for the challenge is - BALLOONS!  This is a really simple card that I created using my Quickutz Revolution die cutting machine and a balloon die.  

This is one of the first dies I ever bought and I still love it... and the bright, patterned balloons against the white background just look so fun and cheerful.

The hardest part of the entire card was deciding what paper to use and how many patterns I wanted and where I wanted them to go.

But once I had decided which balloons I wanted and where they were all going - I glued them down and then doodled in some strings with a black pen.

One of the other little tricks I used was outlining all my balloons with a black copic marker to make them pop off the page.  It's quicker and easier than inking the edges and I love the look.

And OF COURSE... the finishing touch (for me) was adding liquid glass here and there to make those balloons look bright and shiny.

Have You "GELLIED" Yet?

 

It's SATURDAY!!! And today is the Drunken Stampers Challenge No. 143 - THING - Use a Die Cut... I hope you can find some time to play along with us this week... Just create a card Using any kind of Die cut, post a picture on your blog and then link your blog to the Challenge post at the Drunken Stampers Lounge by Friday, October 4th and you too could win the coveted "Life of the Party" blinky for your Blog!

Here is one of the cards I made for this Challenge.

Now I have a LOT of Dies for my Revolution die cutting machine, but to be honest, since I started playing with paint this year, my dies have been getting a little dusty... So this card challenge made me pull out some of them and Just WAIT until I tell you how I made use of BOTH my Dies and my Paints!  

 

Last weekend I took a class at the Great Canadian Scrapbook Carnival from Karen Ellis and I got to play with Gelli Plate Mono-printing... basically smearing paint all over a piece of jelly-like substance, laying a stencil over top and then pressing my paper onto it.

You never know what you are going to get and you only GET ONE.... It was seriously messy and SERIOUSLY FUN! and I came home with a whole bunch of prints to use...So when I sat down to make my card using a die cut I was already thinking about how I could incorporate some of my prints into the card and this what I did...

Here is one of my prints

First I cut out my leaves on a 4x4 square of paper; then I used the "negative" or mask instead of the dies cuts and I glued the mask  over top of my gelliprint; the paper is quite thin, almost like tissue paper so it looked just lovely behind the leaf mask.  

Since I used my Xyron sticker machine to glue the mask to the print image there were quite a few glue lines showing so I covered the card with micro fine glitter and burnished it to turn an UGLY into an accent!  Then I picked out just one leaf die cut to add to the card as an accent.  I outlined the leaf images with a fine tipped black marker to make them stand out just a little more. And then, because I just LOVE to sparkle, I drizzled some liquid glass onto each leaf and sprinkled even MORE Micro fine glitter... and Voila - a wonderful, unique little card!

YUP!! It's that time again...  Today is the day to play the Drunken Stampers Challenge #141 - and it's a Person this week and that person is A BARTENDER - (or drinks, or drinking or anything drink related) Whoooo Hooo!

I had a LOT of fun making this card and I got to use one of my very favorite Unity Stamp Company "itty-bitty" stamps called Three Stick Chicks - these lovely ladies can be used for so many things, but especially for passing on adviced!  And if you look very carefully you will see that one is holding a glass of wine, one is holding a beer and the third is holding a martini cocktail...  How can you NOT love them! grin

Be the Change YOU Want to SEE in the World...

The Drunken Stampers are doing Challenge #140 - Buttons this week and Chromatic Craze's Challenge provided my color pallet and gave me the germ of an idea for a background.  I know it's not my turn in the Drunken Stampers Lounge this week but I wanted in on the action (grin)

Here's the Chromatic Craze Color Challenge

I ended up with this card that I made for a friend using some of the new arty techniques I learned this spring.  I haven't shared any ARTY Stuff with you for a while so I am excited about this card I made with watercolors, some Twinkling H2O's and dylusions sprays.

Believe it or not I have a tough time with buttons - even though I seem to have a Whole Lot of Them saved up - so I did what I do these days when I am stuck - I went to Pinterest and did a search for cards using buttons... and Holy Smokes - what a bunch of creative people we have out there!  After that little meander through Pinterest the creative juices started flowing and I just love what evolved.  Now, just in case you too have a button HOARD that you want to use up I am including the link to all that Pinterest awesomeness but BE WARNED... This site may cause you to lose time (Big GIANT Smile!) CARDS USING BUTTONS - PINTEREST

To create my background I used 120lbs watercolor paper, wet it down and splashed a whole lot of watercolor paint all over it.  Then, while it was still wet, I sprinkled the paper with salt and let it dry, when I brushed off the salt I had this amazing textured look.  To create the button tree I stamped an image of a tree and filled it in with buttons, and then I drew in some leaves along the outside edges and painted them with my Twinkling H20's - It only took about 15 minutes to make the tree, mostly because I kept changing around my buttons.

Because I just couldn't find the right sized letters or right styled letters for my card I ended up just doodling in my sentiment using a black waterproof ink pen and because it seemed just too plain I painted over my lettering using my Dylusion sprays - yup Dylusions as paint - Now THAT'S Cool!

You can see how the ink bled across the watercolor paper but I really liked the effect.  So why not drop by and see what everyone else created?

It's time again to Play in the Drunken Stampers Lounge!  Remember, the series this half of the year is a Person, a Place or a Thing and this week the Challenge dial landed on Place - a Campsite or Woods.  Just create a card with a campsite theme or using wood grain print or wooden elements and blog about it, then link your blog to the Challenge post and you too may win the coveted "Life of the Party" blinky for your Blog!  Here is what I made using one of my new Handmade Harbour digital stamps:

How could I resist coloring this old-style trailer (or Caravan as they say in Britain).  I used my Copic markers to lay down color for the card, but then I went back in with my gel pens and added details and highlights...

The patterned paper is from a line by My Minds Eye which I have been saving FOREVER and I cut out those totally cute wee animals from some of my Harmonie stash - which is quickly disappearing!

and of course the sentiment is EXACTLY how I  know most of us feel!  So all in all it is a really cute little card isn't it!
