Some Final Words of Wisdom for 2015

Today on the almost last day of 2015 I am sharing some pieces that are near and dear to my heart... my Empowering Tags for women featuring Prima Doll Stamps...

I have been working on this concept for about two years now, creating these mixed media backgrounds using srays and embossing folders and modelling paste to showcase these Prima Doll stamped images that I paint using mostly my Inka Gold paints.  I then add an empowering OR sarcastic saying to make each tag a truly unique and personal gift.

And, as the concept gelled and I revealed these tags to several friends and family, the excitement generated by their reactions encouraged me to start sharing the process with other women and showing them that "Yes! YOU TOO can be Creative and Crafty and can make something beautiful and empowering!"

The response to these classes has shown me that there is a real need for this kind of project, and watching someone go from "I could NEVER do that!" to "I LOVE this and I can't believe that I made it!" is so empowering and fulfilling for me that I look forward to sharing this process with many  more woman in my new home in British Columbia.

What's on YOUR Workdesk Wednesday #283!

Yup, It's Wednesday here in Carstairs, Alberta, Canada and I'm sharing my workspace AGAIN with The Stamping Grounds WOYWW#283!  I love this shot I got because you can see my workspace in front of me, my studio behind me and you can see ME! Grin

I am super excited this past week to be working at my own pace on my own stuff (which means NO DEADLINES and NO Design Team projects) and it is amazing to me what my creative soul is producing without the limitations of someone else's needs.  Here are just a few of the canvasses I am working on this week:

a patchwork quilted heart... I need a quote for this one;

a super-textured heart canvas... I think this one is finished now; and

This canvas which has been gessoed over and started again twice... but that I think I might be close to being finished. This is my attempt at using a glue gun to create the trunks and branches of trees... I love feeling the bumpy lumpys of this one!

I tend to have a few projects going at the same time because I hate waiting for stuff to dry but I HAVE to allow the proper amount of drying time or I will ruin my work... so I just start on a second project and then a third canvass and so on and so on until I end up with THIS... A basket full of backgrounds!

 

all sitting and waiting for that inspirational Ah Ha! moment when I pair the canvas with something... like these Prima dolls...

... Now all I need are the right quotes!

WOYWW#282 (What's On YOUR Workdesk Wednesday!)

It's Wednesday again so I am linking up to the Stamping Ground's What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday #282! Here is snap of my workspace - un-edited and un-tidied up - Are you brave enough to join in and reveal what your workspace REALLY looks like? Grin

I am in the middle of finishing up 30 Prima Doll tags - all sporting either an empowering and uplifting saying or a sarcastic and slightly insulting one... (depending upon whom you want to gift with that tag) My theory is Why make one when you can make 30?! First I create all my figures, dressing them up like when I played paper dolls; then I create all the backgrounds... then I mix and match and add the sentiments... finally I finish off each tag with embellishments and a color coordinated brad and ribbon for hanging.

I am hoping to have a post highlighting my favorites and posting them all for sale soon - so if you like what you are seeing... Keep in touch!

Chromatic Craze... I'm the Guest Designer this month!

I am super...UBER excited to be able to share this really cool new challenge site called CHROMATIC CRAZE with all of you since I am their GUEST DESIGNER for this month's challenge.  Last fall I entered one of the very first Chromatic Craze challenges and was honoured to have been chosen as their favorite entry for that month (you can see that blog post HERE) and now I get to be a guest designer for one entire month.

I love this challenge site because it involves color and ONLY color... you can make whatever you want using what ever supplies you have as long as you include the color pallette for that challenge. Plus the challenge lasts an entire month.  So I actually have time to read about it, think about it, make something and get it posted, because let's face it - Procratinators are US! (grin) so without further ado.... here Challenge #8 - Jewel Tones! 

and here is my take on it... I made a tag with another of my Prima Doll Stamps...

For this lovely lady I used my inka gold paints to paint her hair and skin, but I made her dress by stamping onto some fabric that I had adhered to a product called Phoomph (see more about it HERE) ... a double-sided fabric bonding foam that is less than an eighth of an inch thick, which I then cut out and stuck on to my lady... no need for pop dots when I use this stuff - cool huh? (grin)

My background colors were created using my gelatos on 120lbs watercolor paper... I just colored big circles all over my paper and then sprayed it with water and used a brush to blend each colored circle separately.  After it was dry I applied a thin layer of modelling paste through my Tim Holtz stencil to give it some texture.

Some prima bark butterflies that I painted with my Dylusion sprays, a stamped sentiment from one of my Dyan Reaveley stamp sets, and some jeweled bling finish it all off... I don't even need any stickles!

30 Days of Creativity - Day 18 - More Prima Girls!

Today on the 18th day of this journey of 30 Days of Creativity - See original post HERE - I am sharing another of my Prima girls... Isn't she just so very LOVELY? 

Again I used 140lbs water color paper for my tag and modelling paste and stencils and dylusions sprays for the background... and painted my lovely lady using InkaGold paints... but it was missing something... not enough Ooomph... and I didn't think stickles were the answer this time (grin)... 

But did you know that Ranger makes a product called Liquid Pearls in the same wee bottle as the stickles? (of course I have the all - grin)... I just doodled my favorite doodle pattern all over the the card in liquid pearls and that MADE it!  And of course the sentiment is exactly perfect for my life right now..."It's better to take a risk then to miss a Moment of Magic"... and this journey has been sheer magic so far!

30 Days of Creativity - Day 11

If you are joining me for the first time this month I am currently on an amazing journey of "30 Days of Creativity and this is Day 11!  Today I am sharing another of my Prima Girls with you... and if you have ever met me you will know immediately why I just had to use this saying from my Dyan Reaveley stamps (grin)...

For this background I used a modelling cream, a Crafters Workshop stencil and my dylusion sprays.  I allowed the modelling cream to dry completely before I used my sprays so there was no transfer of color at all, the cream completely resisted the dye inks.  I painted this lovely young lady with my Inka Gold paints and I cut her out and fastened her with foam adhesive squares so she really "popped"!  She kind of reminds me of my daughter at about 17... Smile

30 Days of Creativity - Day 5

If you are joining me for the first time this month I am currently on a journey of "30 Days of Creativity" (see original post HERE) and today is DAY 5!

As promised yesterday, today I am sharing another of my Prima Doll Tags using the paper piecing technique - which means I stamped her on a piece of lovely hand-printed paper and cut out just her dress and glued it overtop of her already stamped and painted body... it is a wonderful technique - and all of a sudden a lot of that really loud paper I have been Hoarding forever has a new life... Smile

I created the background using another new product (for me) Dimentional Crystal gel by Art Anthology - which I smeared through a stencil and let dry - I then sprayed the tag with dylusions sprays and the crystal gel totally changed color but still resisted the spray enough to keep its shimmer and texture... so COOL!

30 Days of Creativity - Day 4

If you are just joining me this month I am on a journey of 30 days of Creativity (see original post HERE) and today is DAY 4!  Have you seen the Prima Doll Stamps?  I am IN LOVE!  I think I may now have them all... Well 12 of them anyway (grin) and I have been playing around with creating tags using these lovely ladies as inspiration and adding an empowering saying...  so on Day 4 of my Creative journey I am revealing one of these lovely ladies ....

My process is pretty simple... First I create a whole bunch of background cards using paints, sprays, pastes and stencils, then I stamp and paint or color and cut out a whole bunch of my lovely ladies, now I get to match each image to a background and pick an empowering saying to go along with her.

What I love about these stamps is that you can stamp and color the entire image OR you can stamp and color only her body and then using the stamp - cut her clothes out of paper or cloth or anything - the possibilities are ENDLESS!

For this tag I used a stencil, modelling creme and dylusion sprays on my background and I painted the entire image using inkaGold paints.  I love how this product acts like water color paint but shimmers when it is dry (because you KNOW I love anything that sparkles!).  I picked a saying that resonated with me and added a few stamped images from my new Frog's Whiskers stamps - a piece of matching ribbon so you can hang the tag anywhere and she's done!

Tomorrow I will reveal another of these lovely ladies where I used the paper piecing technique and cut out her dress from some lovely hand-printed paper I have had forever.
