Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers "P" is for Pink Halloween!

Happy October Day Peeps!! The challenge today over at the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers is "P" is for Pink Halloween.  And since this is our third year in a row for this challenge doesn't that make it a Tradition?  So let's celebrate both Halloween and Breast Cancer Awareness by creating a Pink, Halloween-themed card.

Here is my creation for this year where I am introducing a New-To-Me line of digital stamps from Vera Lane Studios created by artist Janet Klein from Arizona, USA. I have a feeling that you will be seeing a lot more of her wonderful work on my blog in the future.  I used the stamp "Whimsical Garden Girl" to create this card, but you can check out her entire line of digital stamps at her Etsy Shop.... 

I colored my image using my Copic markers, added a witchy hat and cat from my Suzi Blu "Witchy Ways" Unity stamp set and I found this wonderful saying that has so many meanings depending on how you say it - perfect for this challenge I think.

Of course I fussy cut out everything, popped, Stickled and inked it all like I always do... and I am very happy with the results.

Now for those of you that may not have seen them... I am including my past creations for the last two "P" is for Pink Halloween challenges... I think I am creating a bit of a witch-themed tradition of my own.

Get Up and BE AMAZING!

Hello everyone!! I am typing as fast as I can to get this post done and this card linked up to the September Challenge over at Rubber Dance Stamps.

This is the second anniversary for this wonderful company and these amazing challenges they have every month and I made a promise to myself that I would link up an entry for this event.  And with less than 30 minutes to go my fingers are FLYING across the keyboard...Grin...

Here is my entry... where I chose the March, 2016 color theme.  I used a Unity Stamps Blom Girl painted with a combination of watercolors and Inkagold paints...

And for the first time in a looong time this card has no Stickles or sparkle on it because the amazingly vibrant background, created using my Magenta Nuance pigment powders, didn't need anything else...

I will blog all about the techniques I used for this background another time because I HAVE to link up before the Linky Tool closes... but be sure to check out Rubber Dance Stamps... they have a flat rate international shipping amount and their products is amazing!!

What's on YOUR Workdesk Wednesday (WOYWW) #382

Happeee Wednesday everyone!  I haven't been around for a few weeks as I have been busy, busy busy getting the end of the garden into jars, hosting family events and discovering a wonderful group of scrapbooking, card making, creative women whom I have the pleasure of getting to know over a four-day retreat in the mountains... SWOON!  I have lots of photos for today's WOYWW post so let's get to it! Grin (NOTE: GO HERE here to find out all about Ms. Julia Dunnit's wonderful weekly WOYWW event over at the Stamping Ground, and maybe consider joining in!)  

My desk this morning, and yes that is a wine glass, but it is from last  night - grin

Here it is from the other side, I was in the zone last night and worked away until the wee hours of the morning because when creativity hits you just hang on for the ride!

 I was working on four different projects at the same time!  This will be my next mixed media tutorial for STAMPlorations...

Here is the lovely mixed media box I created to keep all my STAMPlorations products in one place...

Here is a wedding card I made for my nephew's upcoming marriage using only Graphic 45 paper and stickles and pop dots.

Here is my first attempt using Brusho's and Ken Oliver's Color Burst powders, which I got to play with at my four-day retreat this weekend.  I've decided to use these as backgrounds to cards so I whipped up some Unity Stamp girls to mount them on these bit of colored paper.

These are just a few of my Angela Blom Unity Stamps.... which I painted using a mix of watercolors and Inkagold paints

Here is a peek into one of my Art Journals... I use this one to play with paints and try to draw...

And here is a close up of a lazy-susan (carousel) which I have filled with cups and pots to keep all my favorite pens and brushes and things-I-need at my fingertips.

And finally I just have to share what arrived from a wonderful new cyber-friend who is swapping ATC's with me this month... Patty Gibbs, who lives in Tennessee, not only made me an ATC but she also made me a clay pin, two clay magnets and sent all this wonderful STUFF along with the ATC... it was like opening my stocking on Christmas morning!  THANK YOU PATTY!

For those of you interested we have FUN, no pressure ATC swap group here on Facebook... you should check it out and ask to join if this is your thing. So that's my desk for today... and now I want to share just a few snaps of what I have been up to these past four weeks.....

I may have shared this photo already, but I think it's so impressive it's worth sharing again... the plums and apples are ready!  Apple sauce, pie filling, jam and sweet and sour sauce are all in jars now.

The 60 tomato plants are finally coming to the end of their life (happy dance) and have been turned into 28 jars of pasta sauce using our green peppers, carrots, onions and garlic; 30 jars of whole tomatoes; 20 jars of tomato sauce and we are making ketchup today with what is left!

And right in the middle of all this canning and processing I was invited to attend a four-day scrapbooking retreat which is an annual by-invitation-only event here in Creston, BC... How could I say no?? Grin

This was our scrapbook room along with 6 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, great kitchen facilities, and This view!

This is where I sat from 10:00 am Thursday until 2:00pm Sunday... Swoon!

I came home completely recharged and ready to can more food! Grin

And as if that wasn't already "Heaven on Earth" the leaves started to change color while we were there... Swoon!

It's a Wonderful LIfe - And I Am Living It In Full Color!

Hello EVERYBODY!!! Guess What?  This week the creative team over at Susan K. Weckesser Inc. have hijacked the Clearsnap Blog and are sharing some of the ways we use the new Colorbox Color Pop Mini Inks.  (How fun is THAT?!) And today it's ME up on their blog!! Where Iam sharing this fun scrapbook layout I created all about Me trying to live my life Out Loud and in Full Color!

These photos are all about one of my favorite adventures as I pushed through my HUGE fear of heights and went Para-sailing in 2012 while I was in  Hawaii on a two-week long, bucket-list item scrapbooking vacation with this wonderful group of women.

There was one moment when we were all hooked into the para-sail and were just beginning to slide backwards off the boat when I absolutely panicked - and of course that's when they took the photo! (Can you tell I thought I might die?)

Because I wanted to remember the entire event I recorded my memory here behind the main photo, where the details can remain hidden from the casual observer but are there for anyone who wants to know the story.

I had so much fun reliving this memory as I created my layout using every single vibrant color of the ColorBox mini POP inks and may fun elements from two sets of the Susan K. Weckesser stamps sets from Unity Stamps to capture the joy of the moment.

Creating Impressionistic ATC's - My September Mixed Media Tutorial For STAMPlorations

Hello Blogland Peeps, and Welcome to my monthly mixed media tutorial for STAMPlorations - this is my time to teach and to inspire!

This month I am sharing some simple techniques for creating ATC's (Artists Trading Cards) using stencils, masks and stamps that will make your ATC's look like tiny pieces of impressionist art.

Impressionism: a movement in the late 19th century in French painting, characterized by the goal of reproducing an impression of a subject by use of reflected light and color and the blurring of outlines. —

And these same mixed media techniques can be applied to a canvas or an art journal page.  So sit back, relax and enjoy this photo-tutorial and I do hope inspiration finds you as you scroll through my lesson today.

For my background I used my Dylusion Inks sprayed onto a piece of 140lbs watercolor paper, and then after it had dried I used my brayer to roll a very small bit of white gesso overtop - this faded my background colors back and added some texture. Then I cut my paper into the standard business card sized bits of 2.5"x3.5".

Now, using my masks, white gesso and a makeup sponge, I dabbed the gesso overtop the mask to create a base image.... like these below:

I only dab on enough white gesso to cover the mask so that the background color peeks through.

Then, after that has dried, using my stencils and Studio 490 Crackle Texture Paste I added some 3-D images overtop of the background images, so  now my cards looked like this:

Now at this point you can leave the cards as they are; all subtle and crackled and faded back, OR you can pump up one of your images using pencil crayons (yup, plain old colored pencils)

Choose a main image and add a faint outline in either the same color a few shades darker or a complimentary color.  See the difference?

And finally... add a stamped saying using the tissue paper method and any other ephemera to embellish and enhance.  The above image is the ATC before I added my stamped saying:

And completed - You may notice that I have inked the edges of my ATC, I think this gives it a finished look.

Completed - you may also notice that I like to enhance my crackles by dabbing some spray ink onto the image and wiping off so the ink goes into the cracks.
