Things With Wings - Week 4 - A 25 Day Blog Hop and Linky Party at STAMPLorations

Happy Day everyone!  I am here today to share my last project in STAMPlorations' 25 day Blog Hop and Linky Party "Things With Wings" ... Are you playing yet? (It's the last week you can join in! Smile).  So far for this 25-day event I have created an Arty Card, an Altered Frame and a Card and Coordinating Envelope, so for this last project I thought I would create some tags...
These tags were so simple and quick to make because I cut the tag bases from an empty tissue box!  Have you noticed how  the designs on the tissue boxes have been getting prettier and prettier?  So why just throw them away when they are empty?  I decided to take advantage of this pretty pattern and colors to create these three tags using the CUTplorations Luggage Tag nesting dies.

Once the tags were cut out I glued on butterflies cut from the STAMPlortions' new spring release Flutter Zen 2 die set , then I glued them to the front of the tags and embellished like crazy with Ranger Liquid Pearl and Stickles... That's it!  Three lovely tags in less than 20 minutes... Now that's my kind of project!  Here are a whole bunch of close ups so you can see the detail...
This is the largest tag
This is the smallest tag
And this is the medium sized tag

So Are you playing yet?  This is the last week to get in on the action.  Pop over to the "Things With Wings" blog post to see all the details and to leave a comment ... there are some wonderful prizes to be won!
Prizes:
- (3) randomly drawn winners from all comments left on the STAMP blog and participating designers blog will each receive a $10 gift certificate to the store

Yes You Can! A Tutorial Sharing How YOU Can Create Your Own Stencils and Masks...

Good Morning everyone in blog land!  Today I am super excited to be sharing with all of you this wonderful technique for creating your own re-usable stencils and masks from magazine ads.  (I learned this technique at a workshop I took from another amazing mixed media artist here in Creston, BC, Canada, Win Din - you should check her out.)  And I am sharing my entire process over at the Mixed UP Magazine blog today so do pop on over to see all the steps!
But on my own personal blog I want to share with you not only these three Art journal pages that were birthed using some of the stencils and masks I created, but also some very personal insights about artistic path I followed to get here.

The creative journey I went on that resulted in these pages was both Wonderful and Hard.  It was probably the hardest artistic work I had ever done to this point.  It caused me to look deep into my artistic soul as I allowed myself to record onto these Art Journal pages my most private of hopes for my new life as an artist and my deepest fears of inadequacy and failure.  And although I did hesitate at times on this journey (there was a moment when I almost did not share these pages with all of you - fear rearing its ugly head again!)  I did not QUIT and at the end of the journey the elation I felt from working hard, listening to my own artistic voice, facing down my fears and Not Quitting - was much like "giving birth".
But the best part of the entire process was that somewhere along this journey I discovered that whether or not these Art Journal pages appeal to you - they appeal to me!  Not only that, but they are a true reflection of what I see and how I feel and what I want to share with you from my artistic soul and which I am now bravely sharing!

So please do pop on over the Mixed UP Mag blog to find about the technique and see more photos of my process - which I hope will be a richer experience now that you have read a bit about my journey...

Things With Wings - Week 3, A 25-Day Blog Hop and Linky Party Over at STAMPlorations

Hello Everyone!  I am here today to share my project for the third week of the STAMPlorations' 25 day Blog Hop and Linky Party "Things With Wings" .. Are you playing yet? (Smile).  Here is my project ...
A lovely card for spring which I created using the Fluttering Zen 2 layering dies, the Sweet Spring Wishes phrase dies and the Stitched Winter Landscape die... and then I created the matching envelope!
This card was so easy to create using three sets of dies from STAMPlorations all mounted on a piece of patterned paper.  When I glued down the butterflies, I only added adhesive to the body of the die allowing those lacy wings to lift and flutter...
I also used a white gel pen to accent the stitched line in the CUTplorations Stitched Winter Landscape die as well as some Ranger Glossy Accents and Stickles to add some shimmer.  But I think it's the envelope that takes this project to the next level and wait until you see how easy it is to make!
You start with the stencil created by the solid butterfly shape I cut for my card... I used a heavy card stock so the stencil is quite sturdy.
I cut an envelope out using  my Making Memories Envelope Punch Board (which I LOVE by the way) and then used a sticky note to block off the space where I will write the address.  (Note: I am sure you can use this same process on a pre-made envelope.)
Then using my distress inks through the stencil I pounced on butterfly images randomly all over the envelope starting with the lightest color of ink and moving on to the darkest.
I kept my ink coverage nice and light, allowing the colors to show through from beneath and rotated the stencil so it looked like the  butterflies were arriving from every direction.
And finally I folded up the envelope and used a coordinating marker to outline the address square... now wasn't that easy?

So are you playing yet?  Have you been hopping and commenting? Or have you created something to share and linked it up yet?  Pop over to the "Things With Wings" blog post to see all the details and if nothing else do leave a comment along the way because there are some wonderful prizes to be won!

"Love Is..." Creating In My Journal When Spring Is In The Air

Hello and Happy Stencil Sunday everyone!  Yup, it's that time of month again over at STAMPlorations when I create something using an ARTplorations stencil to inspire you.  April being such a beautiful time of year here in the Creston Valley of British Columbia, Canada that it inspires me and here is what I created for my project this week:

I decided to play in my really big art journal and using only the new ARTplorations Mask Two Feathers and my Dylusions paint in Bubble Gum, Lemon Zest and Squeezed Orange I created this spectacular background.
I used Dyan Reaveley's technique of applying the paint with a small, round sponge applicator and layered the colors over top of each other starting with the lightest and ending with the darkest, moving the Two Feathers mask around and applying the paint at random on all or portions of the mask.  I thing the secret was to not over think the process and just have fun with the paint.
Next I did something really crazy... Grin... I copied these hummingbirds from my new Somerset Studio coloring book (the Art is by Crystal Brashear) and pasted them onto my journal pages.
Using copies made on my home printer allows me to have these images to color over and over again!  I pasted them on with some matte ModPodge which accepted the color from my Peerless watercolors beautifully.
Now isn't that a wonderful way to use some of your coloring pages?

I added this wonderful quote I found by Robert A. Heinlein that really resonates with me right now and then I finished off the spread using another new STAMPlorations product the Bold Sentiments-Hashtag Authentic stamp set.

I hope my little art journal project help to ignite your inspiration and if they do don't forget to link up to the STAMPlorations Monthly Mixed Media Challenge where it is always anything mixed media goes as long as you use a stencil - and there are prizes!

Prizes: $15 gift certificate OR choice of any 2 ARTplorations stencils to the winner
choice of 1 ARTplorations stencil to the top picks

Thanks for popping by today to see what I am up to and please do leave me a comment if you like what you are seeing!

Things With Wings - Week 2 - A 25 Day Blog Hop and Linky Party Over At STAMPlorations

Happy Day and Happy Spring everyone... I am here today to share my second project in STAMPlorations' 25 day Blog Hop and Linky Party "Things With Wings" .. Are you playing yet? (Smile).  Here is my project ...
I decorated this inexpensive chipboard frame using the ARTplorations Flow stencil and the CUTplorations Fluttering Zen 2 Layering Dies and turned it into something worthy to house a photo of my recently departed fur baby - Emma.  I think these products more than did her justice, don't you?
I painted the cardboard frame with a coat of white gesso and then used my Inka Gold paints through the ARTplorations Flow Stencil layering the colors Old Silver, Greeny Gold and Apricot. Once the paints had dried I buffed them with a soft cloth until they shimmered.
I cut the colored butterflies from 100lbs watercolor paper that I had colored using my Magenta Nuance pigment powders using my tabletop die cutting machine, the Quickutz Revolution... (sorry it is no longer being  made) and those lacy butterflies cut beautifully and popped right out of the paper - I didn't even need a shim!
I coated each die cut butterfly in a layer of glossy ModPodge and allowed them to dry on my non-stick craft mat... now they were sturdy enough to mount onto the frame.  I used CTMH Liquid Glass along the body of the butterflies as my adhesive, which allowed me to drop in a few jewels before it dried, and left the butterfly wings free but secure.
I added the sentiment "hello Sunshine" from the CUTplorations Sweet Spring Wishes phrase die set and of course covered it with more CTMH Liquid Glass for that sparkle.  I just love this lovely tribute to our Emma who we had with us for 14 wonderful years... Happy Sigh.

Easy-To-Make and Pretty-To-Look-At Stencil Storage

Hello and happy April everyone... Lynne here today with my monthly tutorial and this month's post is all about how I store my stencils.

I create my own stencil books out of heavy cardboard (saved from products I have bought) and clear plastic scrapbook page protectors all  held together with a couple of metal rings from the dollar store.  And because they are so pretty  there is the added advantage of the wall art they create in my studio because I hang my books on the wall so they are within easy reach.

I now have enough ARTploration stencils to warrant their own book so I decided to make a new one and to decorate it Lynne-style.... Here is the finished product..
I detailed all the steps in my process over on the STAMPlorations blog today so pop on over if you want to know how I made this...

And, as always, thank you for popping in today to see what I am up to and please do leave me a comment if you like what you see!!
